What makes AARC unique?
1. Calgary Police Department Support
AARC is supported by the Calgary Police department and members of the force regularly come to AARC and actively help with the program.
“Calgary is in the midst of one of the most challenging times with the rise of the opioid crisis. Every day we feel the devastating impacts on our community as a result of addictions, and the answer is not to arrest our way out of the problem.
We are doing all that we can from a policing perspective, but we can’t do it alone. We rely on our community partners, to help us find lasting solutions to these complex issues.
Partners like AARC are critical to finding solutions to these complex issues. We’ve seen the staff at AARC go above and beyond to help those in their care. They counsel daughters and sons back from the brink, and give hope, support, and a way forward to lost families.”
– Chief Constable Chaffin, Calgary Police Department
2. Long Term Treatment Solution
Unlike many other treatment facilities, AARC is a long term solution. This means that youth are not given a one or two week deadline to become sober as this often leads to relapsing. AARC allows youth to go through a more comprehensive recovery period and leads to longer term sobriety.
3. Family Member Support & Counselling
Not only does AARC work with its clients, it also supports parents and siblings. With weekly group sessions for both parents and siblings, you can be sure that your family will also receive support from AARC. Many parents don’t realize that they are also deeply affected by their daughter or sons addiction.
4. Graduate Support Network
Once you graduate from the AARC program, there is a deep network of support for parents, graduates and siblings, who come back to AARC. Parents and siblings can come back any time they like for a group session or to talk with other graduates or clients.
5. Staff are Grads
Many of the staff at AARC went through the program themselves and this means they have a deep understanding of the program and the feelings that youth are going through and dealing with. This approach makes AARC extremely unique and makes the staff more relatable and approachable to youth with an addiction.

What Parents are Saying
“Since entering AARC, just over 28 months ago, she has been sober and substance use free. She now holds down a part-time job and is upgrading high school marks at Chinook Learning in the hopes of attending MRU in the fall of 2018. Since her entry into AARC, she has not had to access the Alberta Health Care system for mental health or substance use issues.”
