Clinical Team
Donny Serink, BCC, MSW, RSW
Executive Director
Donny Serink is the Executive Director of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre (“AARC”), a long-term, intensive treatment program for severely addicted youth and their families. Donny is a Registered Social Worker and holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada’s first health-focused MSW program.
Since 2015, Donny has supported youth and families facing substance use disorders and concurrent mental health concerns in AARC's semi-residential treatment setting. Alongside his leadership role and graduate studies, he completed his MSW practicum in a private counselling setting, providing individual and couples counselling. Donny also has experience working in hospital and primary care network settings, providing counselling and critical interventions with a strong understanding of how cultural, biopsychosocial-spiritual, and social determinants of health play a role in health care.
-
Donny’s practice integrates mindfulness-based, 12-Step, existential, psychodynamic, trauma-informed, person-centred interventions. He is also experienced in public speaking and community education on the impact of substance use and dependency on youth and their families.
Donny’s work is informed by both his professional training and his own personal story of mental health, addiction, and recovery, which drives his ongoing commitment to helping individuals and families achieve meaningful, long-term healing.
Donny has been recognized for his excellence in field practicum work, and in 2020 was awarded the Faculty of Social Work Recognition of Excellence in Field Education Award through the University of Calgary.
In 2017 Donny was awarded the Calgary Police Chief’s Exceptional Recognition for Community Service Award for his continued volunteer efforts in the community.
